COSMIC CRUSHING WINDMILLS AND DREAMBOATS
Wed 21 Jul, 2010
I can see a windmill from my window,…………..x
FESTIVAL WHIRLWIND…have not touched the ground since Glastonbury, …….white wings and sunlight, so many of you it almost blinded me, thank you to everyone who came and sang and danced with us,…
we played the chain, my total dream song, and two new songs…very nerve wracking,( I hope you liked them) ,thought I would cry combust or collapse afterwards it was so overwhelming, and then experienced post show meltdown that involved all three……
…, …but Dizzee revived me, …..
Hot chip, black capes and fire sticks, campfires and standing stones, sunrise, forward rolling into the future…Shangri-La la land and back again Mick Jones doing a forward roll, sun cream and sunset,….then off to see the XX,
YOU GOT THE LOVE VERSION 10000000.1, post modern experiment in remix, re vocal , live version of remixed vocals, it was such a joy to perform with them, We were going to rehearse a choreographed interpretive dance routine to do at the same time, but then we decided to just freestyle it. Marimba extravaganza, I wore black. Naturally. X
Thank you again to everyone who has supported me for these past 4 Glastonbury gigs, it was a real moment for me up there, as my first Glastonbury gig was acapella in a tea tent on a Sunday morning, on no sleep in muddy wellies, and I don’t think anyone there could have imagined it would get this far, so thank you,… and I hope you all had a great time too, …
We then went to live in a beautiful Wendy house with some crooked vultures and a Rascal in Finland, not a dream, totally true,…….x
We travelled across Europe playing in town squares and dancing in army barracks, through forests and fields, crossed mountains and rivers, swam in lakes and lost passports, and watched the lead singer of Ramstein ride a giant cannon shaped like a cock out into the audience spraying foam all over everyone, and then they set fire to a stage invader, …also not a dream. That totally happened.
Then I learned how to fly a jet.
Flew us all the way to Somerset house, such a beautiful place to perform, I think my dress was haunted. We found it in the basement of an NY vintage store, endless layers of pink lace, a party dress from the 1930’s, all pale and winsome, west egg esq… yellow lights and fireflies in the summer… it was flood damaged and they were going to throw it away but we rescued it. it completely came to life around me on stage and seemed to be doing a performance of its own.
Perhaps it had was living out some past dream….
I did get quuuuite emotional when we came back on stage for the encore, it has been such an amazing and exhausting two years and it was sort of our last big London show before I start the next album in earnest, …I have never been very good at hiding my feelings, good for singing, slightly embarrassing when crying in front of a crowd, but everyone was lovely and it was wonderful to perform on home turf.…x
The very next day, my first big headline slot on the main stage at LATITUDE.
Lady of shallot outfit made especially by Alex Noble, he’s a total genius, check out his blog, he’s done loads of amazing stuff for gaga as well…HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO GRACE! Of course my family are the ones in fucking animal costumes, I think that was one of my favourite gigs ever, …animal dance invasion.. it was like the jungle book up there…..x
Costumes, Coliseums, red panda’s, bears, France, Italy Rome, then home…….thennnnnnn Off to Australia!
See you there, or see you here…all my love
Florence….x
